Q: What Is Pest Control?

The term “pest control” refers to a method of treating and removing pest species from domestic and commercial property. These pests can include bede bugs, ticks, mice, rats, rodents, silverfish, ants and termites.

Q: How often do I need pest control?

If you’re in a pest-infested area that is prone to outbreaks then you should have regular treatment every 3 months. For most property owners, inspection and checks every 12 months is sufficient.

Q: Do I need to prepare for pest treatment?

Yes but this depends on what pests you’re having exterminated. For indoor pest spraying you may have to leave the property for an hour or two. The exterminator you will explain the necessary measures prior to treatment. To learn more about the types of pest control visit the Queensland Department of Health.

Q: What is the cost of pest control?

The cost of pest treatment varies. Costs also depend on the level of infestation and the type of pest that needs treating. For normal households you can expect to pay $120 to $400 (inclusive of inspection + treatment). To get an accurate price you can request a free quote.

Q: Are you qualified?

Yes. Every pest control operator has a license in pest management from the Queensland Government. We are also qualified and trained to treat termites.

Q: Can I stay on the property?

It depends on the type of pest being exterminated, the type of treatment being used and how the treatment is being administered. With some surface chemicals you may need to leave for a few hours. We will advise you before we begin extermination.

Q: Are my pets safe?

Yes they are. Pesticides are designed to kill household pests and do no harm to your pet. At 1% concentration level you shouldn’t be worried at all.

Q: What’s the difference between a combined building and pest and a pest inspection?

A combined building and pest is an inspection of both the structure and pest activity. It doesn’t factor in general wear and tear. A pest inspection on the other hand is the examination of a property for signs of timber pests and assessment of any damage they may have caused. This should be done when one is buying new property so that there are no nasty surprises.

Q: Why would I need a pest inspection?

Pests may be hard to detect and in this case they may cause structural damage without your knowledge.

Q: Am I at risk of having termites?

Yes you may be. During the rain season, termites fly to colonize new territories and they may nest in your property if they land more so if it’s made of timber and if you live in a termite-infested area. If you have a timber framed home it is best to get an inspection and possibly install a termite barrier system for peace of mind.

Q: What do termites look like?

They are insects 1/8 inch in size with brown, white or a black shade. Termites have a straight antenna and two sets of equal-length wings on their body.

Q: What treatments are used for termites?

Termite treatment includes spot treatment, use of baits, heat treatment & fumigation as well as the use of liquid termiticides especially borate. Both chemical and non chemical treatment can be administered. Termite baits, steel mesh and liquid termiticides like Termidor, can also be used.

Q: How can I prevent termites?

Replace deadwood on the property, use barriers then clear stagnant pools of water. Pre-treatment will also keep termites away. In many cases treating as termite is much like treating most other  species. Remember prevention is always better than cure.
